When people that are not too familiar with lighthouses see an area on our website Lighthouseinn-ct.com that is dedicated to the state of Illinois, they wonder how it is possible since most of the state is surrounded by land, and the part that isn’t is touching a lake. To answer that question, the reason is because Illinois has a handful of lighthouses, many of which are cherished and loved by people who live in the state as well as those who don’t. The fact is that lighthouses in Illinois are just as important as a lighthouse in another state that may be entirely surrounded by water. There truth is this state has at least 2 lighthouses that are arguably some of the most popular in the USA. That is understandable since they have tremendous age coupled with a history that cannot be ignored by any enthusiast.
Interestingly enough, although the above mentioned details on the table… there is still no organization looking to take the lead in preserving and protecting the remaining lighthouses in IL. Some feel that such an organization and effort is not needed for the light stations in this state, but history shows that without someone to be the mouthpiece for these lighthouses it is possible and usually likely that they can end up being demolished or destroyed by the natural elements. If you would like to chime in on this and let the rest of the lighthouse world know how you feel about IL lighthouses, please feel free to leave a comment on any of the pages for the light stations in this state or be sure to contact us and let us know what is on your mind. Enjoy!
