The Hooper Strait Lighthouse can be found in Hooper Strait itself that is located in the middle of Hooper Island and Bloodworth Island in Maryland. The entire strait was first marked by a certain lightship way back in 1827 with the very first one displaying the fixed white light made visible for a total distance of 10 miles. Its service ended when the lighthouse was finally made and lit up by September 14, 1867. This new lighthouse was created on the sleeve piles that are made out of wood driven right into the mud and it was encased in some cast iron. This sleeve pile light only lasted for a decade before it was even overcome by ice right along its sides. It was caused by a strong gale that separated the piles.

That time, the two keepers by the names of Alexander Conway and John Cornwell had only themselves to save. When water filled up the entire lighthouse, there was nothing to do but to watch the lighthouse drift right into bay. The old lighthouse was then replaced with a screwpile along with a total funding of $20,000. It also displayed fixed fifth order lens with a red panel to guide mariners right around the Shoals. When the Hooper Strait was scheduled for demolition, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum purchased the building for $1,000.

The lighthouse was cut in half and it was brought to St. Michaels on a brand new constructed foundation and it was reassembled. Today, the restored lighthouse is considered to be a favorite attraction right at the museum.
