The Oak Island Lighthouse

A nice view of the Oak Island Lighthouse in North Carolina.

The Oak Island Lighthouse was created way back in 1958 and it took about $110,000 to have its completion. It stands at a total hright of 158 feet and it comes with a ladder that is made up of 134 steps. It would lead you straight to the lighthouse’s gallery level. The light of its beacon can reach up to about 24 nautical miles even in the middle of extreme darkness. It is set deep at 67 feet right into the bedrock. During the construction, the kind of concrete used was mixed with some paint so that the need for repainting will not always come up. Up to this very day, the lighthouse is still in its operations with the joint support of two giant groups such the US Coast Guard and the Caswell Beach.

The Oak Island Lighthouse is situated right on the federal property used by the US Coast Guard Station since the era and period of the thirties. Before it was even a location for a lighthouse, it used to be a lifesaving station too. By 2004, the entire lighthouse was transferred to Caswell Town Beach right along the beach property. It was the Coast Guard team who was held responsible to maintain the upkeeping of its lights. But for the protection and the preservation of the lighthouse, it is The Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse that is a non profit organization that is held accountable. The town is the one who also made accessible parkings and roads to the lighthouse.
